The 11th WPCCID is going to be held in conjunction with the 5th Asian UTI/ STD Forum on Nov. 29 to Dec. 3 in 2008 in Taipei, Taiwan. Participants are most welcomed to submit their original abstracts related to bacterial, fungal, parasitic, and viral infections, the pathogenesis of infectious diseases, antimicrobial agents, and related fields of investigation to the Congress.

General Policy

  1. All abstracts must be submitted and be received on or before May 31, 2008 through On-line Abstract Submission System.
  2. All abstracts will be reviewed by the Scientific Program Committee of the 11th WPCCID, and reviewing results will be announced by emailing a notice of acceptance/ rejection to corresponding authors only by July 31, 2008.  Instruction for oral/ poster presentation will be sent to presenting authors of the accepted abstracts. Thus, presenting authors must register and pay the registration fees before Deadline for Pre-registration to ensure the rights for the presentation.
  3. Abstracts must be original and have not been published or presented at any conferences prior to the 11th WPCCID. The accepted abstracts will be published in the Abstracts Book.

Instructions for Preparing Abstracts
Please read the following instructions carefully before preparing your abstract.

  1. Abstract must be typed in ENGLISH and saved in Microsoft Word format with the body limited with 300 words or 200 words if containing of one table or one figure (not including authors’ information). The file size of the submitted abstract should be within 2 MB.
  2. The text should be single spaced and written in point size 12, using Times New Roman font. The title should be concise and describe the research to be reported in point size 14 and be bold. Leave one blank line between the title and the name(s) of the author(s).
  3. The author information should be bold in point size 12 and only includes:
    1. (1) Name(s) should begin with full first name, middle initial and last name. Underline the name of the presenting author of the abstract; otherwise the first author will be taken as the presenting author. Degrees and titles are not required.
    2. (2) Affiliation(s) should be annotated by superscript numbers.
  4. Use standard abbreviations and place a special or unusual abbreviation in parenthesis after the full word appears. Write numbers as numerals rather than words.
  5. An acceptable structure of an abstract must consist of the following components.
    1. (1) Background: A statement of the hypothesis or research question.
    2. (2) Methods: An explanation of the study design and experimental methods used.
    3. (3) Results: A concise summary of the major findings of the experiment or study. Sufficient data must be provided to permit evaluation by the reviewers and public reading the abstracts. Statements such as "the data will be discussed" are not acceptable. (It is only acceptable to insert ONE table or ONE figure in an abstract.)
    4. (4) Conclusion(s): Summary of the overall findings and the importance of the study.
  6. Authors are strongly advised to ensure the accuracy of the submitted abstracts. Any mistakes in literature or in scientific facts will be published as what is typed. 
  7. The Scientific Program Committee of the 11th WPCCID reserves the right to accept or refuse an abstract, to designate abstracts either oral or poster presentation and to choose a suitable session for the abstract. The authors’ preference of the type of the presentation and theme will be taken into account.

  1. Write and save your abstract in Microsoft Word format according to the instructions.
  2. Fill in the abstract submission form and upload your abstract at On-line Abstract Submission System.
    You will be given detailed instructions on how to proceed.

Western Pacific Society of Chemotherapy Young Investigator Award

A number of Young Investigator Awards will be given to applicants attending the 11th WPCCID. There will two winners and the winners will receive economy-class round trip air ticket, accommodation and have his/her registration fee waived. This award will be made for research based on scientific merit presented at the congress. All young scientists submitting presentations are encouraged to apply.
To apply for this Young Investigator Award, the applicants must:

  1. Be under 35 of age (born in 1973 or later) when the abstract is submitted for the Young Investigator Award competition.
  2. Be a resident of Australia, China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan or Thailand. This information should be included in personal curriculum vitae.
  3. Submit an abstract and be the presenting author of the abstract.
  4. Indicate the attention by choosing “Apply for Young Investigator Award” and upload personal curriculum vitae within one page while submitting online.
  5. Complete the registration form and pay the registration fee in advance. The registration fee will be reimbursed during the Congress.
