General Information

Visa Requirement
Visa is in general required for foreign-passport holders upon entry to Taiwan. However, if your passport and the length of your stay satisfy the following three terms, no visa is required.

●	You are holding a passport issued from Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Costa Rica, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Iceland, Italy, Japan, Republic of Korea, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Malaysia, Malta, Monaco, the Netherlands , New Zealand, Norway, Portugal, Singapore, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, U.K. and U.S.A; and
●	Your passport is valid for more than 6 months after entry; and
●	The length of your stay is less than 30 days.
	Moreover, if you are nationals of Czech Republic, Hungary , Poland and Slovak orholders of USA passport with validity less than six months, you may apply for a Landing-Visa at the Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport. Visa can be obtained from Taiwan’s embassies, consulates or designated representative offices. Please check with your travel agent for necessary procedures.

Climate
Taiwan enjoys warm weather all year round. The strongest fluctuations in weather conditions are during spring and winter, while during summer and autumn the weather is relatively stable. Taiwan is extremely suitable for traveling; the average temperature in December and is around 12-18 °C (54-63 °F).

Currency and Banks
The Country’s currency is the New Taiwan dollar (NT$). The exchange rate in recent months is around NT$32~33 for US$1. Foreign currencies can be exchanged at hotels, airports and government-designated banks. Major credit cards are widely accepted, and traveler’s checks may be accepted by tourist-oriented shops and at most international tourist hotels and banks. Banks open whole day from 09:00 to 15:30, Mon-Fri and closed at weekend and public holidays.

Electricity
Taiwan uses electric current of 110 volts at 60 cycles, appliances from Europe, Australia or South-East Asia will need an adaptor or transformer. Many buildings have sockets with 220 volts especially for the use of air conditioners.

Transportation

●	International Airlines
	There are two international airports in Taiwan: Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport (TTY International Airport) in Taoyuan (about 40 KM from Taipei City), and Hsiao-Kang Airport in Kaohsiung. 	Taipei Rapid Transit Corporation
●	Mass Rapid Transit (MRT)
	The mass rapid transit system (MRT) in Taipei, together with the metropolitan area's dedicated bus route network, forms a convenient transportation system. The MRT currently has five lines in operation, which are dotted with a variety of attractions and scenic spots. As a result, visitors can take a leisurely journey through most of the attractive parts of Taipei by using the MRT service. For more information, please visit the website directly.

●	Taiwan High Speed Railway (THSR)
	The THSR link Taipei to Kaohsiung at a total length of 345km with 90 minutes traveling time. There are currently six stations along the line: Taipei, Banciao, Taoyuan, Hsinchu, Taichung, Chiayi, Tainan, and Kaohsiung (Zuoying). ●	Taxi
	Major cities have an abundance of taxis. Charges are NT$70 for the first 1.5km and NT$5 for each additional 300 meters. An additional NT$5 is charged for every two minutes of waiting, and a 20% surcharge is added to fares between 11 p.m. and 6 a.m., NT$10 dollars tip needed for taxi dispatched by phone and for luggage placed in taxi trunk. Out-of-town or long-distance travels may not apply to meter charge; travelers are suggested to confirm charging method before getting on taxi. 50% additional to meter charge needed for cab travel to TTY International Airport. Time Zone
Taiwan is 8 hours ahead of Greenwich Mean Time (GMT).

Tipping
Tipping is not customary in most of places in Taiwan. The one exception is tipping the bellboy when you check into a hotel.
